Darley Newman, Host of Equitrekking

Equitrekking Host Darley NewmanDarley Newman is an equestrian travel expert, who searches the globe for the best in horseback riding travel. As the host and producer of the Public Television series Equitrekking®, the first equestrian travel television series to explore the globe on horseback, and Managing Editor of Equitrekking.com, the one-stop site for equestrian travel, Darley has ridden championship cutting horses in Colorado, Andalusians on the beaches of Spain, Icelandic horses through the lava fields of Iceland and thoroughbreds in Connecticut.

“I wanted to combine my passion for horses and travel. Horseback riding gives you access to remote areas of the globe sometimes inaccessible by other means of transportation. It can take you into the hearts and true lives of the local people, whose culture has been intertwined with horses throughout history.”

With Equitrekking, she combines a passion for horses and travel with her background in television. Darley has worked at 48 Hours, CBS, the WB, The Talk Radio News Service and on various PBS documentaries and series. While at the Talk Radio News Service in Washington, DC, Darley broadcast live Washington reports to stations nation-wide, attending White House briefings and Capitol Hill hearings. After working on a FRONTLINE documentary, Darley headed to New York to 48 Hours, CBS, working in a fast paced news environment.

Darley writes regular columns for True West and Practical Horseman magazines. She also writes about her adventures on her blog on Equitrekking.com, Equisearch.com and for Equitrekking’s monthly e-newsletter. She is author of the Equitrekking: Travel Adventures on Horseback companion book, published by Chronicle Books, which debuts in August of 2008. Darley is currently featured in the book, How'd You Score That Gig, a look at the coolest careers for twenty and thirty-something’s, published by Ballantine Books/Random House.

“One of the best parts of traveling on horseback is getting into a wide-open space and connecting with your horse, as you feel the freedom of a fast ride along a beach, across a field of wildflowers or through a creek bed in a canyon. It’s pure energy and freedom.”

Most recently she has visited Iceland, Sweden, Finland, Ireland, Spain, Belize and Costa Rica. Equitrekking is broadcast on PBS stations across the nation and on CREATE, a nationwide Public Television lifestyle channel.

“After a day of riding, you spend the evening with the new friends you made on your journey - learning, laughing and planning your next day’s adventure in a new land.”
