The Flying L Ranch (OR)

In Depth

Nestled in the Rogue Valley, Ashland is the gateway to the beautiful Pacific Northwest and home to the Flying L Ranch. You will find us 15 miles north of the California border, sitting about 2,000 feet above sea level. Mt. Ashland looms above us to the south, 7,500 feet high. The rugged and biologically diverse Siskiyou Mountains are located to the west and the lush Cascade Range lies to the east. Although the weather is fairly mild, there are four distinct seasons. The hills across the valley turn green with the spring rains and golden brown in the summer's heat. Fall brings crisp days and chilly nights, along with the brilliant palette of leaves turning. And in the winter, when it snows, the hills are beautiful with that alpine feel.

Area Attractions

The Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) is the crown jewel of America’s scenic trails, spanning 2,650 miles from Mexico to Canada. Our guided rides include stretches of the Pacific Crest Trail that meander just south of Ashland, past the 7500 foot peak of Mt. Ashland and into the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument, named for its outstanding biological diversity. The convergence of three mountain ranges has created a haven for hundreds of species of plants and animals, many of which are found no where else on earth. The gentle slope along this section of trail allows us to fully appreciate these ecological wonders, which include an unparalleled diversity of butterflies. We will ride the crest of this volcanic landscape, past bejeweled lakes, towering fir forests, sunlit oak groves, and meadows strewn with wildflowers. Anglers can stalk native Rainbow and Cutthroat trout, as well as non-native Brook and Brown trout in the numerous streams and high mountain lakes.

Ride the PCT during one of our All-Inclusive Ranch Vacations, or for the more adventurous, spend a week of guided riding and camping along the trail (see Progressive PCT Trail Ride)!

Pacific Coast trail rides

The Redwoods of California and Pacific Coast are just two hours away. We’ll explore the primeval cathedral of ancient Redwoods, the world’s tallest trees. Forested trails weave through lofty groves that stagger the senses, while high above; sunlight filters through the canopy like a great stained glass window. Nearby, we will enjoy miles of sandy beaches along the rugged Pacific shore. There, you will witness the solitary pelicans diving into the surf, discover coves hiding in the cliffs, and delight at the barking seals sunning themselves on ocean rocks. You will gallop through a roller coaster of dunes, ford scenic streams, then linger over a leisurely lunch near a coastal lagoon abounding with wildlife. In this place of unspoiled beauty, you will experience nature at its most extravagant.

Enjoy this amazing riding experience as part of our All Inclusive Ranch Vacation (7 day Stay) or make it your destination with our Ocean Breezes / Through the Redwoods Ride!
