Encompassing over a quarter million acres, the 100-year-old Flitner Ranch of Wyoming is one of the largest working cattle ranches in the American West. Third and fourth-generation Flitners and dedicated staff operate The Hideout guest ranch; the historic Trapper Creek Lodge % 26 Guesthouse; plus the mountainside Snowhoe Lodge and the secluded Upper Hideout in the Big Horn Mountains. Guests at The Hideout are genuinely encouraged to join in herding cattle with the ranch hands. Imagine the opportunity to ride with real Wyoming cowboys.

Not your typical dude ranch, The Hideout is an adult-oriented, upscale guest ranch / Western resort. Families with older children can be accommodated, which makes for a dude ranch family vacation they won't soon forget. We also host corporate retreats.

The Hideout can also be defined as a first-class horse ranch. The horses are nothing but the best of the best. Flitner Ranch produces high-quality Quarter horses from foremost foundation and performance bloodlines. The Hideout herd ridden by the wranglers and guests is comprised of Flitner Ranch-bred and other good quality stock horses. These horses are bred, trained, and conditioned to negotiate the demanding terrain. And we take great care in matching horse and rider in both disposition and riding ability to ensure enjoyable rides.

Guests may ride as much or as little as they'd like during their Wyoming ranch vacation with us. The Hideout offers its guests more real cattle work and cattle drives than any other working guest ranch. And with a dude ranch resort of this size and diversity of terrain, there are plenty of options for spectacular scenic trail rides.

We offer incredibly diverse riding terrain and spectacular scenery. From the high desert down in Shell Valley with cactus, salt sage, and prehistoric dinosaur tracks combined with the farming of the green valley along creeks and streams.

Accommodations

The guest accommodations and amenities are luxurious with the option for more rustic and primitive cabins on the ranch. Western-style log cabins, built in 1992, are decorated with quality furnishings in warm colors. Our Casitas are one-bedroom, modern western apartments. The Upper Hideout is nestled amid a grove of tall pines up in the Big Horn Mountains. Because of the remote and high altitude location (approximately 8,400 ft elevation), it is accessible by horseback or 4x4 truck only after the snow pack has gone away, usually not until mid June.

Food

The Hideout chefs are culinary schooled and renowned for serving fresh, high-quality Western fare. Especially famous for their hearty breakfasts and evening gourmet dinners. The gourmet fare at The Hideout makes for a dude ranch vacation like no other.

Guests can choose from a variety of area activities, including the nearby Cody rodeo and Buffalo Bill Historical Center and trips to Yellowstone National Park.
