Our mission states, “We build the lasting character and resiliency of young people, creating unique life experiences in a challenging and nurturing natural environment.” Cheley is a residential sleep away summer experience for children ages 9-17 and a Family Camp for children 6 and up.
Owned and operated by the same family since 1921, Cheley provides a chance to put aside the competitive demands of school and sports, to slow down, open up, explore and get unplugged. It gives families and children an opportunity to hike, backpack, horseback ride, technical climb, camp, whitewater raft and do in-camp activities among the picturesque scene of Colorado. We serve children and hire staff from all over the world and country, this provides a rich experience in meeting others. While at camp the campers have fun as well as work toward deepening their character and confidence as they develop into successful adults.
As an organization, we are active in the American Camp Association, The International Camping Fellowship, the Western Association of Independent Camps, and Leave No Trace.
Family Camps: August 7 - August 12 , Tuesday - Sunday in 2017
Since 1985, Cheley has also offered family summer camps. Families with children age 6 and older can participate in a 5-day family camp in August after the regular summer season ends. Family summer camp activities include horseback riding in the ring and on trails, day hikes to lakes, waterfalls, and mountaintops, technical climbing, fishing, crafts, target sports and games. Families sleep in cozy covered wagons, have bath houses with running water, and hang out in lodges and dining rooms steeped in tradition, while their lungs and souls are filled with crisp clean mountain air. Evening campfires are a favorite for parents and kids, with family skits, songs, creative program reports, and hilarious fun. Family Camp is very popular and always fills, so enroll early!
Fees cover room and board, all activities and supplies, and transportation to/from camp activities. Transportation to/from Cheley Camps is not provided.
