Summer Travel Ideas for Your Alaska Vacation - Boat Tours, Horse Riding, Scenic Drives and Darn Good Salmon!

by Darley Newman

With summer approaching, many people are making travel plans. If Alaska is on your bucket list, it's best to book well in advance. Alaska is a popular family and adventure travel destination.

While filming for Equitrekking Alaska, we experienced horse riding around Seward and Cooper Landing on the Kenai Peninsula, the best salmon that I've ever eaten at the Exit Glacier Salmon Bake, a scenic drive along the Seward Highway, whitewater rafting by Denali National Park and abundant wildlife on a boat tour of the Kenai Fjords National Park.

I was glad that we picked the Kenai Peninsula for our filming, as there was a lot to see and do and it was relatively accessible. We could drive everywhere for our adventures, which isn't always the case in Alaska, where hopping aboard a small plane may be necessary to reach your destination. Of course, once we got to a place, we'd often ride horses or take a boat to get really off the beaten path. I'd go back any day to the Kenai just to eat more of that salmon, a highlight of the trip!
