I was really excited to travel to Wales. I know lots of people who have been to Scotland and England and had in fact myself already been, but never to Wales. I wanted to find out what this small country, the size of the U.S. state of Massachusetts, was all about. So far, we have ridden our strong Welsh ponies to visit beaches, castles and mysterious King Arthur’s Stone. On any given day ride, I would be delighted to visit just one of these, let alone all of them in one day.

Blair Castle has been the seat of the Dukes and Earls of Atholl for over 700 years. This large, white castle looks like it is out of a fairy tale, especially when a couple of times a day a man dressed in a kilt and Highland garb steps outside to play his bagpipes. The music can be heard throughout the estate grounds. Blair Castle still retains a private army, the Atholl Highlanders, which Castle literature claims is Europe’s only remaining private army.
