Jungle Ride, Belize

Belize JungleThe jungle here in the Slate Creek Preserve was one of the most untouched and beautiful of the places that we have ridden in Belize. It is vast. We rode through streams and hilly areas of dense vegetation and wild flowers to an open field where we could gallop a bit. Our final destination was a waterfall, where we had lunch. Getting to the nice rocky outcrop where we ate some really good fajitas was difficult. We tied up the horses and walked over slippery moss covered rocks that took me for a ride right into the water. I didn’t twist an ankle thankfully, but was very careful as we continued onward. I was super hungry by the time we sat down to eat, but the trip to get to this setting was definitely worth it.

My guide Trevor, whose family moved him from Texas to Belize when he was very young, talked more about the forest, having grown up riding through it. I can’t imagine growing up in this remote part of Belize without electricity and being home schooled. What a fascinating life and so neat to hear about it while riding here!
